Gain Notes for Revolution 508 JEM-X1: There is only data for the last part of this revolution because the instrument was in safe mode for most of the revolution to protect it from the very high solar radiation due to an enormous flare. The unit was switched off for all of the preceeding revolution and the gain relaxation that occurred during this dormant period is clearly seen in the large gain increase that occurs when the instrument is finally switched on. Gain fitting is very good for this revolution, but the Xe line analysis clearly shows that the energy correction is consistently too low. This is either due to the the fact that the unit has not warmed up and the spatial gain variations settled down, or could be due to gain suppression on the detector plate due to the high particle background. Either way, it is strongly advised that users do not use data from this very short revolution in any application requiring good energy determination. JEM-X2: No scientific data or gain history for this unit. CAO 4/1/2008
