	 SDAST Chat #98: Tuesday 14th December 2004

Participants: Peter Kretschmar, Stefan Larsson, Sami Maisala, Carol Anne Oxborrow
Jerome Chenevez, Silvia Martinez-Nunez, Niels Joergen Westergaard

Subjects discussed:
AI list: many closed, several re-dated. Generally looks like
		we can keep our deadlines
SDAST personnel position still precarious and largely unknown what
some key players will be doing in 2005 (just a few weeks away!)
Silvia still struggling with her thesis; will present science results
at the next SDAST meeting in Madrid
ISDC rotation schedule. No visits in November and December - apparently
SL and NJW simply forgot to go.
-NJW will take over responsibility for the schedule from JC and
			try and enforce it
-CAO will probably go to ISDC for a week in January 2005

<larsson> Regarding job, its wait and see. END
<larsson> I will apply but the competition will probably be vary hard. END
> Pretty much the same situation here with JC then. END
> Okay, shall we get started? Basically I think we should take a stroll through

> First up to bat is NJW:
> AI28_7 NJW	23 Dec 2004 Add keywords (e.g. tilt size and direction) in
OPEN IC file IMOD-GRP: COLL-MOD

> How's this coming along NJW? END
<njw> It is done (actually today) END
> Good, I'll close it then. Sami you're next:
> AI29_3 SM Xmas 2004 SM to make zipped package of all his background spectra
OPEN and XSPEC fits, and send it to all SDAST members

> Status please. END
> While we wait for Sami, I can report that AI29_6, making spectra of different
> types of bad events to see how bad they really are will be finished by the
> end of this week at the latest.
> Peter let's move on to you:
> AI30_2 PK	Dec 2004 Make sure all SRG dummy events treated properly by
OPEN ISDC system software

> How's it going with SRG dummy events? END
<smaisala> Actually I'd like to know what you need in this package? XSPEC results? All models are already in databases. END
> We agreed at meeting 29 that you would make a tarball of all the figures
> you showed at the meeting so that the rest of us could peruse your results.
<smaisala> OK.
> A URL to the database would also be good. FITS files of your results are
> welcome too. END
<peter> Sorry, I've not discussed these dummy events here yet - somehow that got lost in all the stress. How urgent is this discussion? END
<smaisala> Ok. END
> Peter: I've no idea how urgent this is, it wasn't me that brought up the subject
<njw> Not so urgent since the on-board software patch is not quite fully tested yet,
> at th emeeting. Does anyone else know when this needs to be done by? END
> Sami: when can you make us all a nice package/URL of your results? END
<njw> and then it will take some time to put it through ISOC/MOC END
> Shall we give Peter a new due date for the SRG events, say end of Jan 2005? END
<njw> Jan 2005 shoul be fine END
> Done! What about you Sami: could you distribute your results by the end of
> the year? END
> Okay, another AI for NJW:
> AI30_6 NJW	Xmas 2005 Put numbers (error estimates) to the imperfection of
OPEN the vignetting correction

<smaisala> I hope so. END
> Is Xmas a realistic deadline for this one NJW? END
> Thanks, Sami - we'll keep an eye out for a big Christmas present from Helsinki! END
<njw> Yes, before Xmas is still realistic END
<njw> No, wait, make it Jan 1, 2005 (there are some days between Xmas and New Year) END
> Good stuff NWJ! Next, PK and NL:
> AI30_7 NL/PK	2004/12/3 Propose a new data structure template for Back
ONGOING Projection functions used by NL's imaging software

> Evidently, I'm going to have to circulate some reminders to NL, SB and CBJ about
<peter> Still ongoing, though we had some exchanges. Currently I think the ball is again in Niels' camp. END
> their AI duties. END
> So we'll keep the `ongoing' status, but what about the deadline? END
<peter> I fear this one will need a due date early in January, since since yesterday I am on vacation (in theory at least) END
> I can hear that you're really enjoying your vacation! New due date: 15 Jan 2005.
> END
> AI30_11 NJW	Dec 2004 Find fluxes integrated over all energies for all
OPEN pointings of last Crab calibration (FM1) using OSA4.2,
			to compare with	Carls results

> Can you also get this one done by Xmas NJW? END
<njw> Hmm, you have to make this end of January. j_ima_iros has higher priority END
> Okay, will do. END
> My next one will also be done by the end of this week:
> AI30_13 CAO	Xmas 2004 Circulate proposal to include detector aging in gain
OPEN corrections

> Any comments? END
<jerome> N
<njw> N
<smaisala> n
<larsson> n
> Okay, a nice big joint AI next:
> AI30_14 NJW/PK/NL	Dec.\ 2004 Remove overlap in IMOD/detector data
OPEN reading functions already contributed to shared
			library

<njw> This is part of the j_ima_iros work so there will be new (or updated) functions
<njw> by end of January END
> Okay, end of Jan 2005 it is. END
<njw> This also applies for AI30_14 END
> Now one for Stefan:
> AI30_15 SL/NJW	2004/12/3 Compare C-structures with NL's to streamline
OPEN use of structures in the shared library

<larsson> I expect to look at it before end of year.
<njw> Stefan, remind me to send you some information/functions next week. Niels and
<larsson> Right, lets make it 2004...
<njw> I are working onthis now END
> Good, so we'll leave that date. Now another for Sami:
> AI30_16 SM	2004/12/3 Decide which C-structures to use for background
OPEN models within ISSW functions

<larsson> OK NJ. END
<smaisala> It is already done. I send the pre-defined versions to Peter and NJW. Any comments? Is this AI closed? END
> That's great - another one closed! END
<peter> I think we could close it, what do you think Niels Jrgen? END
> Please tell me when you've done the work to close an AI - I can't sense
> telepathically that you've sent something to someone else. I've closed this
> one. So next AI:
> AI30_17 NJW	2004/12/3 Send SM list of empty fields since last rejection
OPEN criterion change in instruments, with which to make
			new background models

<peter> Carol Anne, we are probably glad you cannot read our minds :-) :-) END
> *I'M* glad I can't read your minds!!!!! END
<larsson> :-)
<njw> Do you still need this, Sami ? If yes, then how many do you need ? END
> Anyway, inspired by Sami's example, I'm expecting that all the rest of the
> AI's have already been closed without my knowledge - and you don't want to
<smaisala> Yes, I have no idea where might be 'empty fields' after HW change. END
> disappoint me now! END
> NJW have you done AI30_17? END
<njw> No, I can do it in 2004. END
> That's great, we'll set the due date to Xmas, and Sami can use the information
> between Xmas and the New Year. END
<peter> A very good proposition, that avoids Sami getting bored with celebrations :-) :-) END
> This next one has been closed by PK and NL, but no word yet from NJW and SL:
> AI30_18 NJW/SL/PK	2004/11/26 Each to write a proposal on how `Smart
OPEN Selection' of radiusLimit parameter should be
			implemented

> I've put all the current proposals on the Developpers Forum, and would like
> to complete the set (see under Discussion Documents and Results). END
<njw> OK, will do this week END
<larsson> I will try to do the same. END
> What about you SL? See - I have to ask, I really can't read your mind! END
> Now the last remaining open AI is for Peter (this is a bit like unwrapping
> Xmas presents!):
> AI30_19 PK	2004/12/3 Write SCREW on modules that will implement `Smart
OPEN Selection' for OSA 5.0

<peter> Well, that one depends on the other. make it Jan 5 assuming that before Christmas everyone has entered their ideas. END
> Will do. Now is there AOB, or just lunch? END
<njw> How is your thesis coming, Silvia ?
<silvia> Nearly finish NJW ! I hope to deliver next week ot the university ! END
> We REALLY need someone to present some good science results at the next
> meeting - so we're counting on you! END
<silvia> Yes, sure CARO I will !
<njw> That's good! END
<jerome> At the Stockholm meeting we have not really discussed the presence at ISDC...
<jerome> From my schedule, NL should have been there in November
<jerome> and Stefan now in December.
<jerome> END
<silvia> One quesiton CAO: are the list of JEM-X data structures up-dated in the ADD ?
> Yes, to the best of my knowledge. END
<silvia> Thanks ! END
<jerome> Is there use for a representant at ISDC, Peter?
<jerome> END
> We can however expect big additions and changes for OSA5.0 - I wouldn't attempt
> to keep you thesis updated with these changes, or you'll be re-writing your
> thesis for ever. END
<peter> To Jerome: I would think yes and more so, when I'm not here. But then the main goal must be to actually interact with other people at ISDC, discuss e.g. mosiacking with Roland,
<peter> OSA updates with Stephane, operations with Nami or Simon ... END
<silvia> Do not worry CAO, I am going to finish it before Xmas with the curren software status END
> Yes, I agree with Peter: our presence is needed urgently in 2005. Who will be
> responsible for making a rotation schedule if JC leaves the project? END
<njw> Perhaps you should take over, CAO (?) END
<jerome> You may also ask already now: who is going to be there next (and when)? END
<njw> Stefan, will you still have a possibility to visit ISDC as a representative ?
> That's true JC: apparently we've already missed at least 2 months, so we need
> womeone for January: any takers? Perhaps those who forgot in November and
> december? END
<larsson> Well, For one thing I dont know if I have any travel money. I will know
<njw> Sami, I assume that we cannot hope that you can join the rotation (?) END
<larsson> better early January when I have got my contract. END
<njw> Silvia, you'll have a position in Valencia in 2005, right ? END
<silvia> I think so. But ...
<smaisala> No, Unfortunately I cannot. END
<silvia> there is a possibility to get a job in Madrid, working with Peter. I think I will confirm you where I am going to be in 2005 in early new year. END
<njw> Alright, we hope for the best END
<silvia> Mange tak, NJW. END
<jerome> Yes we do! END
> Good luck with all your different job applications everyone! Let's hope there's
<njw> Yes, also for you, Jrme END
> more than just me and the two Nielses left by January! END
<jerome> Tak
<silvia> Indeed, I want to talk with Niels and ask him for some advice but after finishing the thesis. I can not handle more than the thesis right now. END
> NJW you're the official co-I for SDAST so you should take over the rotation
> schedule, and make sure that it gets done END
<njw> Yes, I will do what I can END
> I could possibly manage 1 week in January to be at ISDC. END
<peter> It's maybe not so important to have it often, but while being here, people should use the time for interaction.
<njw> Great, let's plan that. I think that without Peter we should make our stays
<peter> It's actually agreat proposition: you visit Switzerland for a few days and mainly chat with people instead of normal work :-) :-) END
<njw> as long as feasible - and I agree with Peter END
> Well that's sorted out - any other AOB? END
<larsson> no
<jerome> N
<njw> N
<silvia> N
<smaisala> N
<peter> No - just my best wishes for all of you, merry Christmas and a happy new year!
<njw> Except: Enjoy Xmas and New Year END
<silvia> FELIZ NAVIDAD Y FELIZ AO NUEVO !!! GOOD JUL !!! END
<smaisala> Hyvää Joulua ja onnellista uutta vuotta! END
<larsson> The same Peter and the rest of you. END
<jerome> Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee!
<larsson> GOD JUL.
> Best wishes for a very mery Christmas and a splendid New Year - let's hope that
