The
11th INTEGRAL Conference
"Gamma-Ray Astrophysics in Multi-Wavelength Perspective"
took place on 10-14 October in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was
organized by SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research and the
Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy of the University of Amsterdam.
The focus of the meeting was on the astrophysics of highly energetic
phenomena that are observed with INTEGRAL, taking into account advanced
modelling and observational constraints from all wavelengths (and other
cosmic messengers). The programme provided a broad perspective of the
findings of INTEGRAL in synergy with other space observatories (XMM-Newton,
Chandra, NuStar, Swift, ASTROSAT, Fermi, etc.) and ground-based facilities
(LOFAR, FACT, HAWC, etc.). With over 100 participants, the meeting was a
great success.
The image combines the INTEGRAL observatory with something relevant to
the host city, i.e., one of Van Gogh's most famous paintings, the Starry
Night. It depicts a scene from Van Gogh's asylum window in Southern France,
with a stylized version of INTEGRAL which was rendered with radial brush
strokes in Photoshop. The merger of the two images illustrates what Van Gogh
might have seen had INTEGRAL been aloft during his time. It seemed natural
that INTEGRAL should be the focal point of his Starry Night. The image served
as the final slide of Arash Bodaghee's presentation on "The NuSTAR Legacy
Program on IGR Sources".
