Abstract
We propose a 200 ks INTEGRAL observation of the ultraluminous infrared galaxy (ULIG) Mrk 273. Due to the
penetrating power of gamma rays, INTEGRAL observations can determine whether the luminous infrared emission
in Mrk 273 originates from a buried AGN, with important implications for theories of galaxy evolution and
the relationship between quasars, disturbed galaxies, and normal galaxies. the INTEGRAL results will also
be important for determining the contribution of infrared luminous glaxies to the soft X-ray and gamma-ray
background.
