Abstract
We propose to use INTEGRAL SPI and IBIS to measure gamma-ray
lines and hard X-ray continua to clarify the
mechanisms,
nucleosynthesis, and dynamics of sufficiently nearby
supernovae, beyond those observations
reserved for the core
program. These might include important additional observations
of objects that do meet
the guaranteed time triggers, and
observations of detectable objects that do not satisfy those
triggers.
The requested observations vary from single early
tests of a specific hypothesis, for relatively distant SN
Ia,
to extensive observations for Galactic events. We define the
Target of Opportunity trigger criteria
clearly for each
category by specifying a complete list of potential host
galaxies. There is a relatively
low probability of any of these
events happening in a given year; we must make the most
of any opportunity
we get.
