Title: Hidden supernovae in the Carina arm

Abstract

This proposal aims at finding Galactic supernovae having exploded within the last few hundred years, but hidden by interstellar absorption. INTEGRAL provides, via the 44Ti decay lines, a unique way to search for such recent supernovae, complementary to traditional detection of the remnants at radio or X-ray wavelengths. We argue that the best place to look for such hidden supernovae is along the Carina Galactic arm. We are prepared to follow up on the discovery of a supernova in the radio, infra-red and X-ray domains.
